Mindy and Jesse suffer a great deal of emotional stress because they were with their Mom and Dad That Day. After the accident Mindy refuses to talk to anyone but her twin Jesse.
Mindy's magical mind connects with other peoples ghosts. She can see them but the only person she will tell is Jesse. So he's in charge of letting the others know about these creatures and how they must get along with them.
In true fashion of the fairy-tale ending all ends well with a few promising details that lead you to believe they will all live happily ever after.
